What to expect
Clear advice, not a rushed transaction.
What we check
The examination is adapted to your child’s age and ability. It can include distance and near vision, prescription, focusing, eye movements and coordination, colour vision where relevant, and an assessment of eye health.
Watching for myopia
Short-sightedness often begins during childhood and can progress as the eyes grow. If myopia is present or risk is elevated, we will explain the findings and whether monitoring, specialist spectacle lenses, contact lenses or Ortho-K assessment may be appropriate.
- Review family and prescription history
- Assess visual needs at school and home
- Discuss outdoor time and near-work habits
- Explain myopia management without pressure
Near GOSH, but independent from the hospital
Drury Porter Eyecare is an independent optician at the Brunswick Centre near Russell Square. We are not part of Great Ormond Street Hospital. If your child is under a hospital team, bring relevant letters and continue to follow that team’s care plan.
